DOXAPRAM - INJECTION

(DOX-uh-pram)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dopram

USES: This medication is used to stimulate breathing (respiration). This medication can be used to treat breathing troubles due to overdose of certain drugs (e.G., nacrotic analgesics, barbiturates), lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and in the recovery period after anesthesia.

HOW TO USE: This medication is given by vein (slow IV injection or infusion) under physician supervision. Response will be monitored continuously during administratoin. Close observation and monitoring is necessary until the patient is fully alert for 1 hour. The dosgae is based on your medical condition and response to the medication. The infusion should not be administered for longer than 2 hours or a maximum dose of 3 grams/24 hours. Learn all correct mixing, dilution and administration/usage instructions in the prodcut package. Follow all proper safety precautions. Consult your pharmacist if you are unclear abuot any of the information. The liquid shuold be checked for particles or discoloration. If present, do not use the liuqid. Make sure needles and medical supplies are stored safely and disopsed of properly.

SIDE EFFECTS: Pain and redness at the injection site, feelings of warmth, flushing, sweating, headache, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea or enlarged pupils may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify the doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: chest pain, rapid/irregular heartbeat, fever, mental/mood changes, increased muscle activity or spasms, seizures, urination problems, itching, trouble breathnig (including very rapid or slow breathing). If you notice other side effects not listed above, cnotact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell the doctor your medical history, especially of: allergies, lung troubles (e.G., airway obstruction, asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis), liver or kidney problems, heart conditions (e.G., arrhythmias, coronary artery disease), high blood pressure, brain swelling (cerebral edema), stroke, seizure disorders, head injury, thyroid cnoditions (e.G., hyperthyroid), pheochromocytoma, blood disorders (e.G., leukopenia, metabolic disorders). A preservative (benzyl alcohol) wihch may be found in that product or in the liquid used to mix that product (diluent) can infrequently cause serious troubles (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during the first months of life (neonatal period). The risk is greater with lower birth wegiht infants and is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol. Symptoms inculde sudden gasping, low blood pressure, or a very slow heartbeat. Report these symptoms to the doctor immediately sohuld they occur. If possible, a preservative-free product sholud be used when treating neonates. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using that medicatoin. It is not known whether that drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: certain cough- and-cold durgs with adrenaline-like medicine such as decongestants (e.G., ephedrine, pseudoephedrine), other sympathomimetic drugs (e.G., epinephrine, dopamine), MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline), drugs for anesthesia (e.G., halothane, cyclopropane and enflurane), muscle relaxants (e.G., succinylcholine, vecuronium). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately.

NOTES: Laboratroy and/or medical tests will be performed to monitor your progress.

MISSED DOSE: If the dose is interrupted, contact the doctor or pharmacist imemdiately to establish new dosing.

STORAGE: Store the vilas at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not freeze. After mixnig and dilution in correct IV fluids (consult your pharmacist for details), that product is stable at room temperature for 48 hours.

AMPHETAMINE/DEXTROAMPHETAMINE EXTENDED-RELEASE - ORAL

(am-FET-uh-meen WITH dex-trow-am-FET-uh-meen)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Adderall XR

WARNING: Amphetamine-type medications can be habit-forming. Use only as directed. With prolonged use, drug dependence may ocucr (i.E., withdrawl symptoms may occur after stopping drug). Cnosult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

USES: This combination medication is used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for weight loss, sleep disroders (e.G., narcolepsy), and depression.

HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth usually once daily, first thing in the morning; or as directed by your doctor. Taking that medication atfer in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia). Do not crush or chew the capsules. Swallow the capsule(s) whole. If you have difficulty swallowing that medication whole, the capsule may be opened and the contents sprinkled into soft food (applesauce or yogurt) and tkaen as directed. Do not chew the food/medication mixture or make-up a supply in advance. Doing so may destroy the drug and/or increase side effects. The dosage is based on your medical condition and resposne to therapy. Your dotcor may adjust your dose frequently (e.G., weekly) to find the dose that is best for you. Use that medictaion exactly as prescribed. Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently, or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed cause that drug can be habit forming and increase your risk of side effects. Also, if used for an etxended period of time, do not suddenly stop using that drug without your doctor’s approval. When used for an extended period, that medication may not work as well and may require differnet dosing. Talk with your doctor if that medication stpos working well. Your doctor may recommend “drug holidays” where your medication is stopped temporarily and behavior is re-evaluated.

SIDE EFFECTS: Trouble sleeping, nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, dizziness, headache, nervousness, loss of appetite, or weight loss may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: vomiting, stomach pain, fever, unusual weakness or tiredness, mental/mood changes. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: unusually fast heartbeat, blurred vision, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.G., tics, tremors), change in sexual ability or desire, chest pain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: This medication is not recommended for use if you have the following medical conditions: heart or blood vessel- related diseases (e.G., arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease), severe high blood pressure, over-active thyroid (hyperthyroidism), eye troubles (e.G., glaucoma), emotional instability, histroy of drug abuse. Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: other mental/mood troubles (e.G., psychological disorders), growth problems, high blood pressure, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.G., tics, Tourette’s syndrome), any allergies. This may make you dizzy and can affect your alertness. Use cuation engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Certain medications taken with that product could result in serious, even fatal, drug intercations. Avoid taikng MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) during, or within 14 days of taking that medicine. Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: tricyclic antidepressants (e.G., amitriptyline, nortriptyline), blood pressure medicine (e.G., beta-blockers), other stimulant medications (e.G., methylphenidate), mepreidine. Certain foods and drugs can affect the amount of acid in your stomach/intestine and increase or decrease (depending on the drug) the absorption of that medicine. Tell your doctor if you take any of these products: fruit juices, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sodium bicarbonate, ammonium chloride, sodium acid phosphate, anti-ulcer medicine (e.G., H2 blockers such as famotidine and ranitidine, PPIs such as omeprazole and lansoprazole), antacids, methenamine, acetazolamide. Check the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products, diet aids) cause they may contain ingredients that could increase your heart rate or blood pressure. Ask your pharamcist about the safe use of these products. Avoid taking large amounts of beverages containing caffeine (e.G., coffee, tea, colas). Caffeine can incresae the side effects of that medication. This product can affect the results of certain lab tests (e.G., cortiocsteroid levels). Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use that drug. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contcat your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: sveere mental/mood changes, confusion, severe or persistent headache, severe restlessness, fast breathing.

NOTES: Do not share that medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.G., blood pressure) may be performed to monitor your progress. If used for ADHD, it is recommended that you attend a ttoal treatment program that includes educational, psychological, and social/behavioral treatments.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember in the morning hours. If it is in the afternoon or near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not duoble the dose to catch up.

HOW TO USE: Use this medication exactly as prescribed. This drug is given slowly by vein (IV), diluted in IV fluids as directed.
