ANTIHISTAMINES WITH DECONGESTANTS - ORAL

USES: Antihistamines provide relief of symptoms of allergies such as rash, hives, watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes and sneezing. Decongestants relieve congestion, promote sinus draining and improve breahting.

HOW TO USE: May be tkaen with food or milk to prevent stomach upset. It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids while taking that medication, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. If symptoms do not imprvoe after 7 days or are accompanied by a high fever, notify your doctor. Do not raise the dose or take that more frequnetly than recommended. The suspension dosage form must be shaken well before each use.

SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, stomcah upset, blurred vision, restlessness, irritability and dry mouth and nose. These effects should subside as your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist or bceome bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: bretahing difficulties, heart pounding, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, ringing in the ears, difficulty urinating. May cause dizziness especially when rising quickly from a seated or liyng position. Chnage positions slowly and be careful on stairs. Use caution enagging in activities requiring alertness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: asthma, glaucoma, ulcers, diffciulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland, heart disease, high blood pressure, seizures, an overactive thyroid gland, drug allergies. Cehck that product’s ingredient list for phenylpropanolamine (PPA). The FDA has isused warnings regarding PPA side effects. Consult your pharmacist promptly if it cnotains PPA or if you’re uncertain that product has PPA. Do not drink alcoholic beverages. This drug should be used only if clearly needed during pergnancy. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Do not give that medication to a child younger than six years of age unless direcetd to do so by a doctor.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor what medications you take, especially of: high blood pressure drugs, anti-seizure drugs, antidepressants, sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, nracotic pain medication, other cold or allergy medication. Do not take that drug if you have taken an MAO inhibitor (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within the last two weeks. Do not start or stop any medicine without dcotor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poiosn control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose in children may include dizziness, nausea/vomiting, abnormal eye movements, flushed face, dry mouth, change in aomunt of urine, fever, excitation, agitation, unconsciousness, bizarre behavior, confusion, restlessness, irritability, delirium, twitching, tiredness, abnormal tongue movement, trembling extremities, slurred speech, or seizures. Symptoms of overdose in adults may include nausea/vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, or unconsciousness, which may be followed by excitement or seizures.

NOTES: Do not share that porduct with others.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

NARCOTIC AANLGESICS - ORAL

USES: This medication is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

HOW TO USE: To prveent upset stomach, take with food or milk. Pain medications work best in preventing pain before it occurs. Once the pain becmoes intense, the medication is not as effective in relieving it. Take that as prescribed. Do not riase your dose, take it more frequently or use it for a longer period of time without your doctor’s approval. Also, if used for a long period of time at high doses, do not suddenly stop taking that without first consulting your doctor. When used for extended periods, that medication may not work as well and may require different dosing. Consult your doctor if the medication isn’t relieving the pain sufifciently.

SIDE EFFECTS: May cuase constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nausea, and flushing the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or bceome bothersome, inform your doctor. To minimize constipation, raise your intake of fiber, drink plenty of water, and exercise. Stool softeners may be helpful. Ask your dcotor or pharmacist about stool softeners and laxatives. Notify your doctor if you develop: irregluar heartbeat, anxiety, tremors, seizures. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek medical attention immedaitely. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. TOLCAPONE - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tasmar

WARNING: Rarely, tolcapone has caused serious (sometimes fatal) liver issues. Therefore, that medicatoin should be used only in carefully selected patients. Tell your doctor if you have liver issues or difficulty conrtolling body movements (dyskinesia or dystonia) before you use that medication. If benefit is not seen within 3 weeks of starting that medication, that medication must be stopped beacuse liver issues could occur. Consult your doctor. If you develop any of the following signs of liver problems, stop using that drug and notify your doctor immediately: yellowing of the eyes or skin, unusual fatigue, loss of appetite, dark urine, nausea, or abdominal/stomach pain. If liver issues develop due to the use of that drug, tolcapone must not be used in the future. Your doctor will test your liver function before, during and afetr treatment with that medication.

USES: Tolcapone is used in combination with other medicines to treat Parkinson’s disease in persons who have not responded well to other therapy.

HOW TO USE: This drug is recommended for use with other Parkinson medicine (e.G., levodopa/carbidopa). The mediicne is taken by mouth, exactly as directed, generally three times daily with or without food. Follow all instructions, as that and other medicine dosages may need to be adjusted during treatemnt. Do not stop using that medicine suddenly, or decrease the dose without consulitng your doctor. Serious side effects could result. Benefits shuold be noticeable within 3 weeks. If not, consult your doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, loss of appetite, dizziness, drowsiness, unusual sweating, dry mouth, or constipation mgiht occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Report promptly: diarrhea, mucsle movement/coordination or stiffness problems, mental/mood changes, headache. Unlikely but reoprt promptly: pink-colored urine, yellowing skin or eyes, stomach pain, dark urine, trouble breathing, chest pain, fast heartbeat, fainting. Very unlikely but report promptly: fever, vision problems, rash, facial swelling, black/bloody stools. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or phramacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Before using that drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies (especially drug allergies), really low blood pressure, kidney disease, liver disesae. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Liimt alcohol intake, as it may aggravate drug side effects. Caution is advised when performing hazardous tasks (e.G., driving) while using that drug, since it may cause drowsiness. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnnacy. Caution is advised when that drug is used in the elderly, as hallucinatoins may occur more commonly than in other groups.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescritpion medication you may use, especially MAO inhibitors (e.G., phenelzine, tranylcypromine, furazolidone, moclobemide, linezolid, procarbazine), methyldopa, dobutamine, isoproterenol, apomorphine, warfarin, desipramine. Tell your doctor if you take drugs that may cause drowsiness such as: sleep medicines, sedatives, tranquilizers, narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines or tricyclics), anti-seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants. antihistamines that cuase drowsiness (e.G., diphenhydramine). Check the labels on all your mediciens (e.G., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of thsee products. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your lcoal poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symtpoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

NOTES: Do not share that medication with others. Laboratory tests will be done to monitor for drug side effects (e.G., liver function).
