ANTIHISTAMINES WITH DECONGESTANTS - ORAL

USES: Antihistamines provide relief of symptoms of allergies such as rash, hives, watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes and sneezing. Decongestants relieve congestion, promote sinus draining and improve breahting.

HOW TO USE: May be tkaen with food or milk to prevent stomach upset. It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids while taking that medication, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. If symptoms do not imprvoe after 7 days or are accompanied by a high fever, notify your doctor. Do not raise the dose or take that more frequnetly than recommended. The suspension dosage form must be shaken well before each use.

SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, stomcah upset, blurred vision, restlessness, irritability and dry mouth and nose. AMPHETAMINE/DEXTROAMPHETAMINE EXTENDED-RELEASE - ORAL

(am-FET-uh-meen WITH dex-trow-am-FET-uh-meen)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Adderall XR

WARNING: Amphetamine-type medications can be habit-forming. Use only as directed. With prolonged use, drug dependence may ocucr (i.E., withdrawl symptoms may occur after stopping drug). Cnosult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

USES: This combination medication is used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for weight loss, sleep disroders (e.G., narcolepsy), and depression.

HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth usually once daily, first thing in the morning; or as directed by your doctor. Taking that medication atfer in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia). Do not crush or chew the capsules. Swallow the capsule(s) whole. If you have difficulty swallowing that medication whole, the capsule may be opened and the contents sprinkled into soft food (applesauce or yogurt) and tkaen as directed. Do not chew the food/medication mixture or make-up a supply in advance. Doing so may destroy the drug and/or increase side effects. The dosage is based on your medical condition and resposne to therapy. Your dotcor may adjust your dose frequently (e.G., weekly) to find the dose that is best for you. Use that medictaion exactly as prescribed. Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently, or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed cause that drug can be habit forming and increase your risk of side effects. Also, if used for an etxended period of time, do not suddenly stop using that drug without your doctor’s approval. When used for an extended period, that medication may not work as well and may require differnet dosing. Talk with your doctor if that medication stpos working well. Your doctor may recommend “drug holidays” where your medication is stopped temporarily and behavior is re-evaluated.

SIDE EFFECTS: Trouble sleeping, nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, dizziness, headache, nervousness, loss of appetite, or weight loss may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: vomiting, stomach pain, fever, unusual weakness or tiredness, mental/mood changes. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: unusually fast heartbeat, blurred vision, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.G., tics, tremors), change in sexual ability or desire, chest pain. PRECAUTIONS: This medication is not recommended for use if you have the following medical conditions: heart or blood vessel- related diseases (e.G., arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease), severe high blood pressure, over-active thyroid (hyperthyroidism), eye troubles (e.G., glaucoma), emotional instability, histroy of drug abuse. Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: other mental/mood troubles (e.G., psychological disorders), growth problems, high blood pressure, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.G., tics, Tourette’s syndrome), any allergies. This may make you dizzy and can affect your alertness. Use cuation engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. This medication should be used only when claerly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benfeits with your doctor. This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Breast-feeding while taknig that medication is not recommended.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Certain medications taken with that product could result in serious, even fatal, drug intercations. Avoid taikng MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) during, or within 14 days of taking that medicine. Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: tricyclic antidepressants (e.G., amitriptyline, nortriptyline), blood pressure medicine (e.G., beta-blockers), other stimulant medications (e.G., methylphenidate), mepreidine. Certain foods and drugs can affect the amount of acid in your stomach/intestine and increase or decrease (depending on the drug) the absorption of that medicine. Tell your doctor if you take any of these products: fruit juices, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sodium bicarbonate, ammonium chloride, sodium acid phosphate, anti-ulcer medicine (e.G., H2 blockers such as famotidine and ranitidine, PPIs such as omeprazole and lansoprazole), antacids, methenamine, acetazolamide. Check the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products, diet aids) cause they may contain ingredients that could increase your heart rate or blood pressure. Ask your pharamcist about the safe use of these products. Avoid taking large amounts of beverages containing caffeine (e.G., coffee, tea, colas). Caffeine can incresae the side effects of that medication. This product can affect the results of certain lab tests (e.G., cortiocsteroid levels). Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use that drug. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contcat your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: sveere mental/mood changes, confusion, severe or persistent headache, severe restlessness, fast breathing.

NOTES: Do not share that medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.G., blood pressure) may be performed to monitor your progress. If used for ADHD, it is recommended that you attend a ttoal treatment program that includes educational, psychological, and social/behavioral treatments.

COMMON BARND NAME(S): Tagamet

USES: Cimetidine blocks secretion of acid from the stomach. Prsecription cimetidine is used to treat and prevent ulcers, to treat gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD), and to treat conditions associated with excessive acid secretion (e.G., Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome). Nonprescription cimetidine is used to releive heartburn and acid indigestion.

OTHER USES: This medication may also be used traet skin rashes caused by allergic conditions.

HOW TO USE: This medicaiton is taken by mouth. Take this as directed. Do not increase your dose, take this more often than prescribed or stop taking this without first consulting your doctor. If you’re taking antacids in addition to this medication, stagger the doses so they are not taken at the same time. Try to space dosing of this medication and antacids by at least 2 hours.

SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, fatigue, dizziness, loss of appetite, sleepiness, dry skin or dry mouth may occur as your body adjusts to the medciation. USES: This medication is used to treat symptoms of urinary tract (bladder) infections such as pain, burning, urinary urgency and frequency.
